Position Title
Staff Research Associate
- Bodega Marine Laboratory
Matt is a Staff Research Associate in the Coastal Oceanography Group at Bodega Marine Laboratory. He received a B.S. degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from Oregon State University in 2002 and a Master's degree in Ecology from the University of California, Davis in 2013. Since joining BML in 2008, his work has taken him to many of the small (e.g., Salmon Creek), medium (e.g., Tomales Bay), and large (e.g., San Francisco Bay) estuaries in the region, as well as the open coast, to study the effects of large-scale regional and global processes on local oceanographic and environmental conditions. His role in the Coastal Oceanography Group is to implement and oversee oceanographic studies, beginning with project design, then "getting his feet wet" (though usually his whole body) during fieldwork, and finally organizing and processing the data collected. He is also involved in the leadership of the UC Davis diving and boating safety programs as a member of the Diving Control Board, a divemaster, and a Motorboat Operator Training Course instructor.
